Healthy food helps kids grow, gives adults energy, and keeps our bodies strong against illness. Everyone should have access to healthy food, but that doesn’t always happen. In 2021, Rochester started a food policy council to help improve how food is shared and sold in the community.

Now you can help more children, families, and seniors get the healthy food they need. The Rochester Food Policy Council is looking for new members to join our team. We’re especially hoping to hear from people whose voices haven’t always been heard or included in the past. Made up of community members and others from the non-profit, education, businesses, and/or government sectors, Rochester Food Policy Council researches and recommends food related policies, advises governments and organizations on food-related plans, and engages the public to build awareness of food related issues.

To be a member of the Rochester Food Policy Council, you must:

  • Live in the City of Rochester
  • Have a passion for food
  • Commit to a minimum two-year term
  • Attend a minimum of nine meetings a year and participate in a subcommittee

To apply, take our short questionnaire. Your application will be reviewed by Council members, with each member having an equal vote. Applicants will receive an email from rocfoodpolicy@commongroundhealth.org letting them know whether they’ve been selected. Questions? Send an email to rocfoodpolicy@commongroundhealth.org.
