These were some of the questions Rochester city council and mayoral candidates answered on a survey about food policy-related issues. The Rochester Food Policy Council has made candidate responses available online.
Driven by resident leaders, the Rochester Food Policy Council convenes community members and stakeholders to develop policy solutions, grow partnerships and support projects that improve the local food system. The council is supported by Common Ground Health, Foodlink and the City of Rochester.
The candidate survey focused on such topics as food access, local agriculture and youth engagement with the food system. Questions included how candidates would support the implementation of the Rochester Community Food Systems Plan. Candidates were also asked what role the city government has in ensuring consistent access to nutritious and culturally appropriate food. View candidate responses here.
The Rochester primary election will take place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 24; look up your polling site here. Early voting takes place through June 22. In New York, only those who are registered with a party are eligible to vote in the primary.
