EVENT: Mary A. Pittman, DrPH, chief executive officer and president of the Public Health Institute (PHI) in Oakland, California, will speak on “Why do we still have health care disparities.”

WHO: Mary Pittman is a nationally recognized leader in improving community health, addressing health inequities among vulnerable people and promoting quality of care. She leads efforts to bring health care and public health together to improve population health.
WHAT: This discussion will explore many of the complex causes of health disparities and will pay particular attention to social determinants of health—such as the physical environment, education level, economic stability, family and social support, community safety, and the effects of institutional and systemic racism and bias. Pittman will also discuss solutions that could be implemented to enhance equitable health outcomes.
