A special screening of a documentary celebrating the Black agricultural movement and food sovereignty will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Little Theatre, 240 East Ave., Rochester. The film will be followed by a panel discussion on “Cultivating Wellness: Mental Health Support Through Farming and Gardening.”

Farming While Black: Reclaiming Land and Agricultural Heritage is a feature-length documentary film that features members of the rising generation reclaiming their rightful ownership to land and reconnecting with their ancestral roots. The film examines the historical plight of Black farmers in the U.S. In 1910, Black farmers owned 14 percent of all American farmland. Today, that number has fallen below two percent, due to racism, discrimination, and dispossession. One goal of the film is to catalyze the return of 14 million acres of land to Black farmers.

Tickets for the film and talk cost $5 and are available to the public online at https://bit.ly/farmscreen. This special screening is presented by Rochester Food Policy Council and Rochester Black Nurses Association.
