Cancer among Older Adults

Finger Lakes Region

This chart is based on BRFSS survey data and displays the percentage of older adults in the Finger Lakes who have ever been told that they have any cancer. The "18+" bar enables a comparison of the older adults to the overall adult population. While the survey data shows no significant difference in the prevalence among those aged 55-64 compared to the overall adult (18+) population, the 65-74 and 75+ populations do show significantly higher prevalence of cancer. These age groups are approximately double and triple the overall adult percentage, respectively. With certain health conditions more prevalent among the older adult population, as well as the anticipated increase in older adults within the region over the next several decades, it will be important to continue to address workforce and availability of services for these individuals.
