Mental Health Indicators of Students by Sex
Monroe County High School Students
Monroe County high school students complete a biennial Youth Risk Behavior Survey that asks about several areas of health, including mental health, self-harm, and suicide ideation. This chart displays the mental health disparities between male and female students who participated in the 2023-2024 survey. Approximately half of female students reported current mental health challenges, and female students were twice as likely to report suicidality (considered, planned, or attempted suicide) and three times as likely to report self-injury compared to male students. For additional information on this topic please reference the Monroe County Behavioral Health Needs Assessment and the report titled So Much More than Academics: School-based Opportunities to Address Self-Harm among Youth.
