March 2019Common Ground Health’s year in review provides a snapshot of our collaborative approach to health improvement. You’ll read about new initiatives to support the social and emotional health of children, campaigns to make streets safer for walkers and cyclists, and efforts to create a culture of health in congregations, barbershops, salons and schools. You’ll also learn about programs to help medical practices adopt a team approach to care and use clinical data to drive continuous improvement. This work is made possible through our 245 partnering organizations and the hundreds of individuals who serve on collaborative tables and support initiatives. New COO and director of analytics announcedCongratulations to Common Ground Health’s new chief operating officer, Albert Blankley, and new director of analytics, Amie Kulak. Blankley, who has been a staff member since 2013, previously served as director of research and analytics and oversaw health care capacity planning reviews. Kulak joined Common Ground Health in 2018 as associate director of research and analytics, bringing with her more than two decades of health and healthcare analytics experience. Common Ground Health is hiring for a director of research, who will set research priorities for the organization and seek opportunities for funding partnerships in support of the community and Common Ground’s mission. Kudos to the Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics team at Golisano Children’s Hospital for creating a Southern-Tier specific website featuring resources and services for children with special needs. Funded by Corning Health, the website focuses on supports in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties. These include resources on advocacy, behavioral health, food and housing, health, parent support, recreation, transportation and vocation/employment. “Parents of children with special needs, particularly those living in rural areas, need help connecting with specialists,” said Wade Norwood, CEO of Common Ground Health. “I encourage people to share this resource.” View it here. Top barbers and stylists who are community health educators will speak about their work. Admission is free; register here. The African American Health Coalition and the Latino Health Coalition present Speak Life!, a conference exploring the impact of violence on the health of communities of color. The all-day event will take place May 4 at the Rochester Riverside Hotel. Register by April 26 or at the door. Details here.
