Chamber offers inclusive communication training

Through its Colors of Success series, Denise Reed Lamoreaux, Worldwide Learning Director of Customer Success for Accessible Accommodations at Microsoft will present "Becoming an Inclusive Communicator." Issues covered in this session will include: use of proper pronouns, abolishing misuse of the language of disability, following cultural norms for all team members.

The training will be held on June 16 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. It is free for Greater Rochester Chamber Members, and costs $25 for non-members.

Peer recovery trainings available in June

This month SUNY Corning Community College is offering two sessions of peer recovery advocacy and coaching training. This course helps to develop non-clinical, peer-based recovery advocacy and coaching skills which are designed to engage peers beyond initial contact through stabilization and into recovery maintenance within the community. 

The program includes 30 hours of peer recovery coaching and the required 16 hours of ethics training. It is ideal for those who have personal experience with addiction, whether having lived through it themselves or having helped a friend or family member.

Courses will be held on Thursday, Friday, Saturday June 16-18 and June 23-25, 2022 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM at Health Education Center, Denison Parkway in Corning. Funding is available through SUNY Reimagine Scholarships.

Applications are open for HRSA Faculty Loan Repayment Program

The Faculty Loan Repayment Program helps decrease economic barriers associated with pursuing careers as academic faculty. The program provides loan repayment assistance of up to $40,000 to eligible faculty members serving at academic institutions who face economic and environmental challenges. Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen (either U.S. born or naturalized), a U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Be from an economically or environmentally disadvantaged background
  • Hold a degree or certification in an eligible health profession
  • Be employed as faculty at an eligible academic institution

The Institute for Human Services, Inc. hosting root cause analysis and corrective action training

The Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action training course teaches valuable root cause analysis tools and methodology to address corrective actions. The course provides a firm understanding of the process by which employees can find the underlying causes of problems that impact many organizations’ operations and profitability.

Corning Community College Workforce Development will be facilitating this training on June 28 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. This virtual event is free of charge.

Compensation equity guide available from Nonprofit Quarterly

Compensation Equity: A Values-Based Framework & Implementation Guide is available for purchase for $69.00 from Nonprofit Quarterly. A live webinar will be held on June 23, 2:00-3:30 PM with the the team from Vega Mala Consulting, who will share a framework they have developed called the Compensation Scale Equity Process and Calculator™. 

This process and tool support organizations already deeply committed to equity, to:

  • design a pay scale that embodies organizational values;
  • analyze their current salaries for pay equity;
  • and transition along a continuum from a market-based salary policy to an anti-racist reparations model that works to reverse-engineer racist pay policies.

Thompson hosting information sessions on becoming a CNA

UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting information sessions for community members interested in beginning careers as certified nursing assistants (CNAs).

In partnership with Finger Lakes Community College, Thompson offers a five-week CNA training course. Thompson covers the full tuition, and participants receive payment while taking the class. 

The one-hour information sessions will be held in the Constellation Center for Health and Healing at the back of F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua on the following dates:

  • Thursday, June 23, 4 - 5 PM (RSVP by June 19)
  • Thursday, July 7, 4 - 5 PM (RSVP by July 3)

Funding forecasted for public health infrastructure, workforce and data improvements

The Centers for Disease Control is forecasting a funding opportunity entitled "Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems." This funding is a first of its kind, non-categorical and cross-cutting program, intended to help meet critical infrastructure and workforce needs in the short-term; it should also make possible strategic investments that will have lasting effects on public health agencies across the United States. 

One hundred sixteen (116) awards are available. The estimated post date is June 16th, with an estimated application date of August 16, 2022.

Save the dates: Women of Color Summit

On July 21 and 28 and August 4, 2022 at 9:30AM - 12:00PM, Eleversity will host the fourth annual Women of Color Summit (WOC).

This year’s theme, Authenticity in Action; Restoration in Practice, will
reflect the multiple experiences that have impacted women of color and challenges across systems presented over the last 24 months.

FLPPS announces "Axis of Care" program in Orleans County

Finger Lakes Performing Provider System (FLPPS) is collaborating with Community Action of Orleans and Genesee to increase access to healthcare for homeless and housing insecure families in Orleans County through a new program referred to as “Axis of Care.”

Community Action of Orleans and Genesee will hire a health coach who will connect and coordinate individuals with services, set and track goals and outcomes, improve health literacy among those in need, and coordinate transportation to healthcare facilities as needed. The health coach will be integrated into the existing case management program and collaborate with a peer advocate from Genesee Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (GCASA).

 

Dementia training resources available from NADRC

The National Alzheimer's and Dementia Research Center has compiled trainings and educational resources for professionals and volunteers working with people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) and their caregivers. A wide variety of topics are covered, including:

  • Caregiving
  • Diverse populations and dementia
  • People with dementia who live alone
  • People with intellectual and developmental disabilities and dementia
