Health CareWorkforce UpdatesMarch 2022FLPPS and Exercise Express expand access to services through certified peer specialists Finger Lakes Performing Provider System (FLPPS) has announced a partnership with Exercise Express to expand access to mental health and substance use disorder services in Rochester by hiring additional certified Peer Specialists. Exercise Express provides behavioral health services in the home or community that promote socialization, recovery, wellness, self-advocacy, development of natural supports, and maintenance of community living skills. Causewave conducting survey of nonprofit employees Causewave Community Partners is conducting a survey to understand employment trends impacting the nonprofit sector in Western NY. CCSI offers crisis response sessionsWith assistance from Greater Rochester Health Foundation, CCSI is offering weekly sessions focused on crisis response for community based organizations (CBOs). Sessions are aimed at either CBO leaders/managers or direct service and administrative support staff. Upcoming dates and registration links are shared below. Green House Project shares workforce success stories The Green House Project is hosting a three-part webinar series on how its unique staffing model has helped providers avoid the high turnover rates experienced in long-term care settings. Registration is open for Geriatric Teaching Day Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center is hosting the 15th Annual Caring for Elders Geriatric Teaching Day via Zoom on April 13 at 9AM-4PM. Health Equity Conference The African American and Latino Health Coalitions are hosting the 2022 Speak Life! Health Equity Conference via Zoom on April 23 at 9AM-12:30PM. This year's theme, Revive, will challenge health disparities and inequities in our health care system, offer a message of renewed hope and energy, and set the stage to create a collective plan of action and path forward as a community. This event is free and open to the public. Spanish and ASL interpretation will be provided. Contact healthcoalitions@commongroundhealth.org by April 18 to request additional accessibility accommodations Rural substance use disorder summit coming to Rochester in May On May 18-20, UR Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence is hosting a National Rural Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Health Equity and Stigma Summit to discuss stigma associated with SUD and examine the many challenges created by stigma that impede efforts to overcome the opioid crisis. The summit is focused on rural communities, where limited resources, fewer providers, and lack of anonymity can impose substantial barriers to those seeking SUD/opioid use disorder (OUD) care. The summit will be held online and in-person at the Eastman School of Music. It is free and open to the public. Save the date: Caring for seniors in rural New York conference The Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center is hosting "Let's talk about health: Caring for seniors in rural New York" on May 20 and 21. This two-day virtual conference is aimed at health care professionals and family caregivers. The event costs $10 for those claiming continuing medical education or NYS Social Work continuing education credits, FREE for all others.
