Virtual dementia education series for health care professionals is underway The Alzheimer's Association Chapters of New York State and the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center are again offering their virtual dementia education series for health care providers. In addition to this training series, The Alzheimer's Association offers a variety of training and support groups for professionals and family caregivers. NCLER webinar focuses on promoting autonomy for older adults and adults with disabilities On November 14 at 2 - 3:15 p.m., the National Center for Law and Elder Rights (NCLER) will host a webinar to explore strategies for identifying and implementing decisional and other supports for adults who might need assistance in particular areas, and will discuss how advocates who work with adults can, through the thoughtful implementation of well-crafted supports, maximize their client’s autonomy while minimizing the intrusion on decision-making authority. Webinar focuses on public health leadership in times of crisis On November 14 at noon, the Region 2 Public Health Training Center will present Building Skills for Public Health Leaders: Lessons Learned from the Advancing Leadership in Times of Crisis Program. Monroe County Medical Society offers AI in Healthcare webinar On November 15 at 6 - 7 p.m., the Monroe County Medical Society will host AI in Healthcare, to focus on the rapidly-changing digital landscape in health care. WNY R-AHEC offers self-study course on social determinants of health WNY R-AHEC is offering a self-study course focused on social determinants of health. This course provides a broad overview of the non-clinical factors in rural communities that impact health outcomes. While there is an emphasis on rural communities, anyone can benefit from this course. There are continuing education credits available. Click here to register. The first 100 registrants can take the course for free. Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center, Inc. (WNY R-AHEC) is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Boards for Social Work (#SW-0685), Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health Practitioners (#MHC-0268) as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers, physical therapists and assistants, occupational therapists, and assistants, and licensed mental health counselors. Health Leadership Fellows applications are due November 21 Applications are now open for Cohort 11 of the Health Foundation of Western & Central New York's Health Leadership Fellows program. Applications are due on November 21, 2023. The goal of the Health Leadership Fellows Program is to develop and strengthen a diverse network of collaborative leaders with organizations and systems that serve young children and older adults in western and central New York. A final virtual information sessions will be held on November 7. Who should apply People who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, or from other under-represented communities are strongly encouraged to apply. Clinical Education Initiative offers free trainings The Clinical Education Initiative (CEI) provides FREE in-person trainings and webinars for health care professionals throughout the state. Training topics cover PrEP, PEP, HIV, HCV, sexual health, drug user health, and more. Free CME/CNE/CNE Rx/CPE credits are available. Check out their training calendar or request a training. County Executive Bello announced $11 million ARPA investment to address long term health care staffing shortage Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced $11 million in American Rescue Plan funding (ARPA) to expand two of Finger Lakes Performing Provider Systems’ (FLPPS) nursing workforce development programs to address nursing shortages throughout the county. $5.5 million dollars of ARPA funding is allocated to the FLPPS Long-Term Care Workforce Program to establish career pathways systems with Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) that will cover training costs, tuition and other employee related expenses for certified nursing assistants (CNAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs). The program’s goal is to expand service capacity with participating SNFs and home health care agencies. An additional $5.5 million of ARPA funding is awarded to FLPPS for a workforce development partnership with Monroe Community College (MCC) for their Transforming Lives Through Nursing Pathways Program. The funding expands and strengthens clinical programming at MCC to serve more students and offers Academic Success Coaches to nursing students and wraparound support services such as childcare and transportation. RIT Certified offers new courses for the health care field New health sector training opportunities are available from RIT Certified, including: NYHealth Foundation publishes Community Health Worker fact sheet As part of its Primary Care initiative, NYHealth is working toward strengthening the primary care workforce—including an enhanced, integrated role for Community Health Workers (CHWs). The CHW workforce is projected to grow in New York State by 44% between 2020 and 2030, much faster than other health care occupations. Recording available - Taking an Anti-Racist Approach in Health Workforce Research The Health Workforce Technical Assistance Center's recent virtual meeting, Taking an Anti-Racist Approach in Health Workforce Research, is now available for viewing on demand. In this webinar, participants learned what anti-racist research is and how anti-racism can be infused into research methods used in health workforce research. The speakers gave participants the opportunity to reflect on their own work and develop goals to shift their research to be more explicitly anti-racist. Resources available for health departments through the Public Health Infrastructure GrantThe Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) is a groundbreaking investment that supports critical public health infrastructure needs of health departments across the United States. Funding from this grant will help ensure that every U.S. community has the people, services, and systems needed to promote and protect health. In Fall 2022, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), and Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) historic grants to support state, local, and territorial health departments through the PHIG grant. Together, these national partners will collaborate with public health agencies in their efforts to modernize data systems, recruit and retain a skilled public health workforce, and address longstanding public health infrastructure needs. This website, produced by the national partners, supports jurisdictions in their drive to modernize the nation’s public health systems. Visitors can explore technical assistance offerings, view resources to accelerate their work, and see stories of impact from the PHIG grant in communities. UAlbany School of Public Health to offer full MPH scholarships The University at Albany School of Public Health has received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to provide full scholarships to incoming Master of Public Health (MPH) students who will join the Strengthening the Public Health Workforce Training Program. Students selected for this program will receive full scholarships for the MPH program plus a Health Disparities or Maternal and Child Health certificate, special training to enhance their ability to address health disparities and current and emerging public health crises, and dedicated career development resources to facilitate their entry into the public health workforce.
