Monroe Community Hospital recognized with Innovation of the Year Award

Congratulations to Monroe Community Hospital for being recognized with LeadingAge New York’s 2024 Innovation of the Year Award. MCH was honored for its simulation center, which features simulation technology that allows staff to practice real-time scenarios in a safe, controlled environment.

The center features two responsive mannequins and space for teams to review recorded sessions and discuss performance improvements. Active trainings include infection control, enhanced barrier precautions and contact cleaning. Learn more

Upcoming Events and Trainings

Bridging The Gap: Training for Medical Interpreters – hybrid, May 1 to May 29
Finger Lakes Community Health is offering this course to train individuals to become competent medical interpreters. Topics include basic interpreting skills; code of ethics; information on the U.S. healthcare system; medical terminology; culture in interpreting; and communication skills for advocacy.

Bridging the Gap is taught in English and is open to bilingual speakers of all languages. Classes will meet on May 1, May 6, May 8, May 13, May 15, May 20, May 22 and May 29 in Geneva. (40 hr. hybrid course) Get details here.

Practical Nursing Program Test with Essential Academic Skills – May 2 and May 30
The Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Practical Nursing Program prepares students for licensure as a practical nurse. Upcoming Test with Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exams include:

2025 Let’s Talk About Health: Caring for Older Adults in Rural New York Conference – virtual, May 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The goal of this free, virtual conference is to identify and mitigate the challenges healthcare professionals and caregivers serving older adults face in rural areas. Topics include increasing knowledge of population health data, treatment strategies, and supports and services to encourage and build resilience in rural caregivers and healthcare providers. Healthy Aging for Your Brain: Strategies for Women in Recovery Conference – virtual, May 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This free, online conference for older women in recovery will feature experts discussing nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management. By incorporating these healthy strategies into recovery plans and aligning with others doing the same, women can improve their own health while they reimagine the future of 12-Step Recovery for generations of women to follow. University of Rochester School of Nursing Experiential Learning Summit – June 6
The School of Nursing’s second annual Experiential Learning Summit, Fostering Engagement in Distance Health Professions Education Programs will be held on June 6. This full day summit will feature expert-led discussions and interactive workshops and provide valuable insights into best practices to foster connection, collaboration and skill-building in virtual environments. Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training – Arnot Health
Arnot Health in Elmira is looking for Environmental Aides to join its team as part of an "earn while you learn" opportunity to work while receiving continuing education from Corning Community College on the skills required to become a CNA. Apply here.

 

Workforce development policy in the U.S. New research by Elizabeth J. Altman and Eli Schrag of the Brookings Institution provides recommendations to strengthen U.S. workforce development policy that would eliminate redundancies in services, expand sectorial workforce programs and grow apprenticeships as an alternative to college.

 

How Teams Are Engaging and Retaining Direct Care Workers. Joelle Baehrend from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement explains how an initiative to improve retention of health care workers is transforming workforce well-being.
