Click here Health CareWorkforce UpdatesJanuary 2025Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) Program The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) released a new Notice of Funding Opportunity to enhance the nursing workforce. The NWD program aims to increase nursing education opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities underrepresented among registered nurses. Applications are due by March 18. Learn more. Rehabilitation Research and Training Centers (RRTC) program The Administration for Community Living’s National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research is offering a funding opportunity for employment among people who are blind or have low vision. Applications are due March 31. Learn more. The New York State Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars program The AHEC Scholars p accepting applications for its two-year internship program. AHEC Scholars is designed to provide current health professional students with community learning opportunities in underserved and medically disadvantaged areas. This statewide, HRSA-funded internship program is open to anyone enrolled in a health-related degree program and in their last two years of study. Interns completing the program will receive a $2,000 stipend. Introduction to Coding – webinar series, January 21 and January 28 (morning and afternoon sessions). Hosted by the Monroe County Medical Society, this webinar series is designed for inexperienced coders and will lead the learner from the beginner through intermediate level in medical coding for healthcare providers. The series includes an Introduction to Medical Coding, ICD-10-CM Coding, CPT Coding, and E/M Coding. Learn more. Lifespan's Gerontology Certificate Program – virtual, January through December. This program offers 31 non-credit classes on topics related to longevity and aging. Presented in partnership with the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center at the University of Rochester, the program runs from January 2025 through December 2025 with classes every Wednesday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Learn more. Innovation in the Direct Care Workforce: Unlocking Success Through Peer Learning – webinar, January 29, 2-3 pm. This National Council on Aging webinar will highlight how state teams have come together through Direct Care Workforce Strategies Center’s Peer Learning Collaboratives (PLCs) to share best practices, brainstorm strategies for tackling common challenges, and achieve milestones toward building a more robust Home and Community Based Services direct care workforce. Register here. The Center for Nonprofit Leadership at St. John Fisher University, Spring Semester Classes: Introduction to Nonprofit Organizations. Covers the types of nonprofit organizations, mission and vision statements, and the role of boards of directors. Learn more. Board Leadership Seminar – in-person cohort begins February 26. This program is a seven-session program designed to make the nonprofit board more of a partner and asset in enhancing agency performance. If interested, please complete this form by January 31. HRSA’s Minority Colleges, Universities, and Community Colleges Technical Assistance initiative is hosting a five-day bootcamp to help community-based organizations understand, apply for, and manage federal funding. Register here. Management and Leadership for the Medical Practice – virtual, February 19, 9 am to 4 pm. This Monroe County Medical Society course provides the skills needed for current and aspiring medical office managers to lead a high-performing team. Learn more. The Winter 2024 Program Guide from the local Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer's Association Rochester and Finger Lakes Region Chapter Winter 2025 Program Guide is now available. This guide includes information on all of the association’s January - March programs across a 9-county region. These programs are offered for free. Guiding Principles for Improving Health Care Workforce Well-Being. Leaders from health care organizations, universities, non-profits, and professional associations implemented evidence-based strategies to reduce burnout, suicide, and mental health conditions, as well as to promote resiliency and well-being among health and public safety workers and learners. This document provides detail on the five guiding principles along with insights and experiences from grantee organizations that participated in the Workplace Change Collaborative. There’s more to skills-based hiring than just removing degree requirements. Brookings fellow Annelies Goger comments on the how skills-based hiring is gaining momentum as a strategy to open hiring processes.
