Health CareWorkforce UpdatesJune 2021Please join the second virtual workforce lunch and learn Common Ground Health invites you to attend the second of two lunch and learn webinars in June, presented in partnership with MCC. We will share results from the 27-county regional health care workforce skills and competencies survey and information about MCC's health career pathway analysis. The sessions are meant for leaders in education, community based organizations and health care and will end with a brief discussion and Q&A. SUNY Binghamton recruiting Fall 2021 cohort for HRSA-funded rural NP program SUNY Binghamton Decker School of Nursing was awarded a four-year $2.8 million Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) grant. The goal of the project is to support Advanced Practice Nursing Education in rural NY and PA by recruiting from within rural areas to support a "grow your own" model of increasing the workforce. Eligibility criteria include:
This grant provides fully paid tuition (no fees included), Cardiac II Stethoscope, a textbook stipend, laptop computer, FNP/Adult Gerontology Certification review course and text book, and annual professional memberships to the Rural Nurse Organization and New York State Nurse Practitioner Association. MCC planning health care operations careers project Monroe Community College recently received funding to document opportunities for non-clinical health care careers, including customer service, billing and coding, and other back-end operations. This process will include facilitated focus groups with health care leaders who can speak about these positions. If you are interested in participating in a focus group, please email Dr. Todd Oldham. Thompson Health offering CNA training In partnership with Finger Lakes Community College, UR Medicine Thompson Health is offering a five-week training course for individuals interested in becoming certified nursing assistants (CNAs) at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua. Classes begin July 13. The classes are full-time, primarily Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and attendance is mandatory. Thompson Health covers the full tuition, and participants receive payment while taking the class. They are hired into a CNA position at M.M. Ewing, a 178-bed skilled nursing facility. Trainings offered by Steuben Rural Health Network and Corning Community College Funded by Health Research Inc. and New York State Department of Health, Steuben Rural Health Network is offering free virtual training opportunities in partnership with Corning Community College.
Two more chances to join the Women of Color Summit Eleversity is offering a 4-session Women of Color Summit to engage in discussions designed to address systemic barriers, inequities and disparities for women of color. This year's theme, Healing, Restoration and Resilience will reflect on how the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed long-standing inequities by race, ethnicity and income. The remaining sessions cost $50 each and will be held via Zoom on June 17 and 24. Click here to learn more and to register. Chamber offers training on supporting staff mental health The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce is offering Mental health during COVID: Practical ways supervisors can support staff who are struggling. This webinar is designed to help supervisors identify staff who may be struggling to manage everyday life stressors and provide practical strategies supervisors can use to keep staff feeling positive, engaged, and supported. The session will be held 11 AM - 12 PM on Wednesday July 21. Loan repayment applications are open The National Health Service Corps has opened its application for the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Loan Repayment Program. Applications are accepted though July 22, 2021. Click here to apply.
