Health CareWorkforce UpdatesJune 2024Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy to host webinar on dental hygiene scope of practice Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy's Future Oral Health Workforce Project will host a webinar on June 6 at 2 - 3 p.m. with the Health Workforce Technical Assistance Center. Presented by Jean Moore, DrPH, FAAN, this webinar considers state-to-state variability in dental hygiene (DH) scope of practice (SOP). Dr. Moore will describe the use of the Dental Hygiene Professional Practice Index to quantify SOP and highlight differences across states. Research on the impact of DH SOP on access to community-based oral health preventive services will be discussed. Click here to register for the June 6 webinar. HRSA funding forecast: Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention - Workforce Expansion Program The Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR) - Workforce Expansion Program (WEP) is expected to launch soon (HRSA-24-098). The Health Resources and Services Administration has dedicated $4.75 million to NEPQR-WEP. This program aims to increase the nursing workforce in rural (non-metro) and underserved areas to address the critical shortage of nurses, specifically in acute and long-term care settings.Click here to watch a brief video about program requirements and eligibility. Free suicide prevention workshops offered for rural providers UR Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence will offer live, interactive, no-cost suicide-prevention workshops for rural providers, plus one year of learning and interaction. Designed to strengthen skills for health providers in rural communities, with a special focus on youth, substance use, and Indigenous populations. Choose one of the following online sessions: Thursday, June 20; Thursday, July 25; Thursday, August 1; or Thursday, August 15 at noon – 3:30 p.m. Space is limited. Click here to register. United Way to host annual nonprofit summit On June 25 at 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Finger Lakes Community College, United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes will host the 2024 Nonprofit Summit: We Thrive Together. Registration open for SJFU's Nonprofit Management Certificate Program The Certificate in Nonprofit Management equips leaders with an understanding of the basic skills needed to succeed in management positions within nonprofit and health care organizations. Updates from NY Office of Strategic Workforce Development Grant Applications Re-Opened for New Submissions The Office of Strategic Workforce Development has revamped guidelines to streamline and hasten the process for qualified applicants. This includes a rolling application process, increased application assistance from Empire State Development and increasing the potential award amounts for Pay for Performance Operating Grants. Applications are now open for new submissions, and will remain open on a rolling basis. These documents provide an overview of important program features as well as advice for incorporating these strategies into programming. These resources are intended for both prospective and current OSWD grantees, as well as the larger workforce development community, to further OSWD’s goals of developing and promoting inclusive and impactful programs, expanding opportunities to marginalized communities, and promoting equitable economic growth across the State. Press Ganey announces investment in mobile app to build workplace culture Health care worker turnover continues to be a significant challenge, impacting patient experience, care quality, safety and financial performance. Charge Health is a mobile social game that builds workplace cultures of belonging by connecting caregivers to the “why” behind their work for improved retention. Charge Health helps health care leaders foster positivity and connection by making it easy and fun to support coworkers, which drives improvement in job satisfaction and retention. Reframing Aging facilitators are available to provide training The National Center to Reframe Aging is dedicated to ending ageism by advancing an equitable and complete story about aging in America. Earlier this year, a group of local facilitators were trained by the National Center and are now available to conduct trainings to share effective, evidence-based communication strategies to combat ageist perspectives and stereotypes and improve the public’s understanding of aging and the many contributions older people bring to society. Reframing Aging workshops can be customized to meet your needs and timeline. Service providers, business/organizational leaders, communications professionals and students who want to support a different view of aging in our community are welcome! If you are interested in hosting a Reframing Aging session or presentation at your organization, please contact Leanne Rorick, Co-director of the Monroe County Aging Alliance, or Melissa Pennise, Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives at Common Ground Health, to be connected to a local facilitator.
