SUNY Brockport Creates School of Nursing, Launching Online Educational Leadership Program

SUNY Brockport announced that its nursing program is officially becoming a School of Nursing, due to continued growth. Enrollment in the nursing program grew from 205 undergraduate students in 2010 to nearly 900 students in 2024 (771 at the undergraduate level and 110 graduate students).

SUNY Brockport is also launching a fully online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership. This Ed.D. program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals by offering a flexible, accessible path to advanced credentials. Learn more.

 
Upcoming Events and Trainings

LGBTQ Cultural Competency for Healthcare Professionals – webinar, August 10, noon to 3 p.m.
This Elite Learning webinar will provide instruction on cultural competency and specialized clinical training focusing on patients who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender nonconforming, queer, or question their sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. Healthcare professionals will gain information and skills to care effectively and respectfully for patients who identify as LGBTQ. Learn more.

 

Older Adult Mental Health First Aid Training – August 19, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center and Ardent Solutions are offering first aid training and certification to equip caregivers, family members, and staff with the tools to support older adults experiencing mental health challenges or in crisis. This training will take place at Off Duty Inc. Restaurant, 5184 State Route 244 in Belmont, N.Y. Register.

Gain Certification in Indigenous Psychotherapy™ and Antiracist, Culturally Competent Treatment for Black Families
This program provides a supportive environment for practitioners to learn culturally responsive healing methods. This course offers essential skills for promoting wellness in communities of color. The next cohort begins September 12. Learn more.

FLPPS Recruiting for Career Pathways Training Program, Training Sites
The FLPPS Career Pathways Training (CPT) Program supports individuals in launching or advancing careers in health, behavioral health, and social care. The CPT program offers tuition assistance, educational case management, tutoring services, mentoring and career coaching, and resume building and job placement support. Recruitment for the fall in underway for Associate Registered Nurse, Master of Social Work, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Respiratory Therapist. Learn more.

Providers are also needed to serve as qualified service commitment sites for the CPT program. NYS-enrolled providers who serve at least 30% Medicaid and/or uninsured individuals are eligible to become qualified service sites. Categories include health, behavioral health, and organizations that are part of established NYS Social Care Networks (SCNs). Becoming a qualified site can provide access to a pipeline of CPT graduates and help support workforce development by offering full-time employment to CPT participants for a minimum of three years. Workforce Development Conference, October 20 to 22
New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals’ (NYATEP) Workforce Development Conference features compelling keynote addresses and plenary sessions, engaging and informative workshops, and opportunities to connect with and learn from practitioners, policymakers, and other partners. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Albany - The Desmond Hotel, 660 Albany Shaker Road. Learn more.

 

Training planned on better serving Deaf/ASL communities
Join the Deaf Senior Services Coalition virtually on from 12 to 1:15 p.m. July 30 to learn how to better serve Deaf/ASL communities and earn a free 2-hour completion certificate. This session is a highly recommended for those committed to inclusive, compassionate care. Register here.

 

Training offered on serving older adults
USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and the American Society on Aging are offering a certificate program to prepare people to serve older adults. The online program offers flexible self-paced modules designed to prepare students for leadership in aging-related industries and initiatives. Courses are available in Ageism and Culture in Gerontology and Innovation and Social Impact in Gerontology. Training runs from Sept. 8 - Oct. 31. Sign up by Sept. 2. Learn more.

The Health Care Workforce: A Challenge In Sustainability. This report provides insight into the key factors surrounding the current and future sustainability of the health care workforce.

Partners in Progress: Pursuing Medical-Dental Integration in Ohio. This report looks at a two-year pilot program integrating oral care services in pediatric primary care settings in Ohio and establishing referral networks between medical and dental practices. Improvements were seen in the delivery of oral health services for children.
