HRSA grant opportunity: Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention - Workforce Expansion Program Applications are now open for the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR) - Workforce Expansion Program (WEP) (HRSA-24-098). The Health Resources and Services Administration has dedicated $4.75 million to NEPQR-WEP. This program aims to increase the nursing workforce in rural (non-metro) and underserved areas to address the critical shortage of nurses, specifically in acute and long-term care settings.Applications close on July 26. NCOA to host webinar on workforce investment systems On July 11 at 3 p.m., the National Council on Aging will host Workforce Investment Systems 101: Engaging with State Workforce Systems – Learning the Language to Build Partnerships. This course integrates theoretical foundations with practical applications, preparing students to address complex client needs and navigate the challenges of nonprofit environments. UR Medicine Nursing Scholars program extended The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and the School of Nursing have announced the extension of the groundbreaking UR Nursing Scholars program for an additional three years, committing to preparing new nurses through Summer 2027. This initiative will provide a tuition-free nursing education to nearly 300 additional students, significantly bolstering efforts to address the nursing shortage in the Rochester region. June 2024 Health Affairs issue focuses on reimagining public health The theme of the June 2024 issue of Health Affairs is Reimagining Public Health. Highlights include a focus on public health workforce challenges, preparation for future public health emergencies, rural health equity, diversifying funding, and community partnership. All articles are open access. de Beaumont Foundation promotes upstream solutions to improve mental health of the public health workforce In this article, de Beaumont Foundation emphasizes the urgent need to address the mental health of the public health workforce by implementing upstream solutions. With significant increases in mental health issues among public health employees due to the pandemic, traditional reactive measures like employee assistance programs are insufficient. Instead, proactive strategies focusing on improving workplace culture, transparency, trust, and flexibility are vital. CDC offers self-guided health equity training CDC’s Office of Health Equity has made available the Foundations of Health Equity Training Plan. This self-guided, online training plan is designed to facilitate foundational knowledge and skill development on topics related to health equity, health disparities, and structural and social determinants of health. The training plan contains thirteen on-demand trainings covering six health equity-related domains, including organizational policy, infrastructure, communication, community engagement and racism. The Foundations of Health Equity training plan can benefit individuals who are new to health equity or may want to learn about new concepts and approaches. But how does menopause actually impact their professional lives? To better understand the current experience of menopausal women at work, Elektra Health surveyed 2,000 professional women in the United States, age 40-55, including managers, directors, and C-suite executives. The survey revealed that 1 in 3 women report menopause negatively impacts work performance. New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals (NYATEP) is partnering with the New York State Economic Development Council for another convening of workforce and economic development professionals. New York State Clinical Laboratory Association meeting to be held in September The NYSCLA Annual Meeting is a high impact event that will provide updates to laboratory executives relative to occurrences within the industry, with added focus on national and state specific legislative, regulatory, and economic issues. This year's conference will be held on September 18-19 in Albany.
